Mind Mapping Video for HomeBusinessBrains.com.

In an earlier post I told you about a trip to New York where I was invited to be the Mind Mapping Expert for a new Home Business Building advice and support site.

At the time I thought it might be a bit of a punt because it was early days for these people but now having seen who else is on the faculty, I realise what a huge venture it actually is.

People like Michael Gerber (author of the “E-Myth”), Michael Tipper (oops, that’s me!) and many other leading experts have contributed to providing advice for home based business owners.

I was invited to contribute because Mind Mapping is seen by the founders of the site to be a fundamental tool that anyone in business MUST have if they want to keep ahead of the competition – and they wanted someone credible, professional and vastly experienced in the technique – and fortunately my name came up :-)

That was at the beginning of the year and after months of hard work by the owners of that site, it is about to be launched.

In fact tomorrow is the big day but as of today I and the other experts can release one or two of our videos to you to whet your appetite.

The site is based in the US and so it is being launched on their time so when the link for the site becomes live I will let you know.

In the meantime, here is just one of the many videos I have on the site that explains what Mind Mapping is all about, how it relates to business and how Tony Buzan made his great discovery.

mrt_times_square.jpgI have been in New York this week filming for a new website aimed at helping small businesses grow and develop.

I can’t tell you much about it because I am sworn to secrecy until the site goes live at the end of the month.

What I can tell you though is that the owners of this new site recognise the power of Mind Mapping in helping entrepreneurs across a wide variety of functions and activities and most of all dealing with information overload.

So alongside some really amazing business gurus, I have been positioned as a leading exponent in the application of Mind Mapping in the business environment which in itself is extremely flattering.

It was only a 5 day trip but we managed to pack in seeing the sites, shooting my own on the road videos (here is a picture of me in Times Square sharing some thoughts on how to use Mind Mapping in Business) and of course the filming for this new web site.

So if you run a small business and want to know how you can:

  • Be far more productive (one third of Mind Mapping users polled recently claimed an increase in productivity of over 30%)
  • Manage your business much more effectively
  • Take control of the vast amount of information and data you have to deal with

…then watch this space for an exciting new resource that will help you do all of that.

Amongst the many pleasures of my chosen vocation are the opportunities to meet new and interesting people, visit different parts of the world and of course help people grow and develop by introducing them to the powerful concepts that have helped shape my life.

Last week I had the privilege of sharing the benefits of Mind Mapping with staff from the R&D arm of a huge multinational company at the Sheraton Hotel at Frankfurt airport.

Many of my family and friends often express mild bouts of jealousy when I share with them the places I visit, especially when they are abroad (the places, not my family and friends J ).

Of course the life of a professional speaker does sound rather glamorous when you reel off the foreign trips – Frankfurt, Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt again, Luxembourg, Amsterdam again, Dublin, Kuwait, Kuwait again.

When something new comes along that challenges, the way things have always been, there is usually a backlash from the that’s the way we have always done it crowd.

Often this kills many new ideas or at the very least delays the introduction of what might be a viable new way of doing things.

Certainly people embrace new ideas at different rates.

In the back of my mind I recalled there was something called a Technology Adoption Lifecycle that categorised people depending on when they embraced a new technology.

A quick check of the Lazy Man’s Oracle (Wikipedia!) revealed that a 1950s study carried out on farmers and their hybrid seed corn buying patterns identified distinct groups of people in the pace of the adoption of new ideas.

Here are the categories it identified:

Innovators – a small group of risk-orientated people who try out new ideas the earliest

Early Adopters – A slightly larger group of people who try a new idea probably after hearing about it from an Innovator.

Early Majority – conservative in their approach but still open to new ideas and will embrace a new concept once certain it is already widely accepted.

Late Majority - fairly conservative people who tend to be a little older and slightly more resistant to new concepts and take up new ideas after the fuss has passed.

Laggards - Very conservative and maybe stuck in their ways and might only incorporate an innovation in their lives after years of hearing – What are you still doing it like that for

By definition, the largest of these groups are the Early and Late Majority which is when an idea (or technology) has pretty much achieved public recognition and acceptance.

Now if we look at this cycle and apply it to Mind Mapping, depending on who you talk to will depend on where they think it is in the cycle.

Personally I think we are in the Early Adoption stage and there are several reasons I think this:
